The Department of Chemistry offers programs of study leading to the master of
science (M.S.) degree and the master of arts (M.A.) degree. The M.S. is a
research degree and specializations are possible in biochemistry, analytical, inorganic,
organic, physical, polymer and materials chemistry. The M.A. degree has an
emphasis in teaching high school chemistry or college chemistry. Some required courses are offered in evening formats, both on campus and in Midland. See the current schedule for details.
Applicants for admission to the M.S. and M.A. programs should be aware that in addition to the application requirements found in the Graduate School Application (below), they must submit scores for the General GRE and subject matter GRE in Chemistry.
A student's typical two year program is supported by
Departmental stipends. Research Assistantships are available from various
faculty members as well as Teaching Assistantships through the Department.
